Just two short weeks after the Mississippi River Monsters tournament in Memphis the big catfish stage will be set in Henderson, KY. Just below the bridge is an awesome boat ramp to accommodate the anglers.

Henderson sets on the banks of the Ohio River with Indiana across the bridge. Just to the south of that bridge is a tremendous boat ramp that gives easy access to the Ohio River for the boating and fishing public. Henderson will be offering more than a catfish tournament during the busy weekend. .

The Henderson Farmer’s Market will be in operation on both days at Cates Porter Pavilion County Fairgrounds (381 Sam Ball way Henderson County Fairgrounds). Visitors can peruse and purchase locally grown produce, fruit, plants, honey, eggs, and meats. They can even stock up on wines, jams and jellies offered by local farmers and producers. Look em’ up on Facebook.

Friday night will feature Starry Starry Nights at the Henderson Community College at 8:00 pm. A $10 ticket allow you in to witness a unique view and discussion of our universe through the eyes of a Meade LX-90 telescope (weather permitting). Visitors will enjoy a discussion, by Scott Taylor, about the amazing universe in which we live. The event takes place at the Sullivan Tech Center.

Saturday night will be highlighted with Dinner on the River in Audubon Mill Park form 6 to 10 PM. Presented by the Downtown Henderson Partnership (DHP), guests can bring their own food or can purchase food from Henderson’s downtown restaurants. Menus will be online before the event. Keep in mind that Dinner on the River is a 21 and up event. There will be a cash bar at the event consisting of Peerless Moonshine, Local Craft Beer and Wine. Live music and dancing will take place throughout the event and a shuttle service will be provided to ensure all make it home safe. All proceeds go back to the DHP.

Add in a catfish tournament and Henderson is going to be hopping. Catfish anglers have earned a place in the Northern Classic by competing in other King Kat tournaments throughout the year. The highly anticipated event has them thinking about the Ohio River and tournament preparations.

Zed Moore and his brother Josh finished third in the recent Mississippi River Monsters tournament out of Memphis

“The King Kat Classic in Henderson is super exciting for the Tri-State Catfishermen,” said Zed Moore, a frequent tournament competitor. Zed and his brother Josh Moore recently finished in the third place spot in the Mississippi River Monsters tournament out of Memphis and are looking forward to fishing Henderson.

“We are pleased to see Henderson, KY hosting a Cabela’s Championship again,” continued Zed. “My, brother Josh and I have been excited about this Championship since Jeremy Coe, tournament director for the Cabela’s King Kat trail, confirmed the dates and location for the Northern Championship late last fall.”

“The Tri-State area has a booming population of catfisherman and one of the best catfishing rivers in the country,” offered Zed. “The field will be stacked with some of the nations top ‘catters’ battling it out for two days on the river. The winners will receive the Championship Trophy and a brand new 20-foot catfishing rig.”

“It looks like the weather is going to be good and the fisherman should be fishing a stable river level,” reported Zed. “We plan to start out suspend drifting, but will remain flexible and use other tactics if necessary, depending on the bite and conditions.”

“It should be an exciting weigh-in with some big fish and big prizes on the line,” concluded Zed. “Henderson is a great location for catfish tournaments with one of the nicest boat ramps and riverfronts along the Ohio River.”

Jeremy Coe is excited too. “The Henderson area of the Ohio River is big fish country,” said the King Kat tournament director. “We are looking forward to having the Northern Championship there. People from Kansas to Pennsylvania have qualified for the event. We look forward to seeing everyone on Friday evening at the meeting to get things going.”

The tournament officially kicks off at the Captains Meeting on Friday night and ends after two days of competitive fishing. For more information visit the King Kat Website or follow them on Facebook.
