Joey Pounders and Jay Gallop lead day one at Cabela’s King Kat Southern Championship out of Gallatin, TN

Joey Pounders and Jay Gallop lead day one at Cabela’s King Kat Southern Championship out of Gallatin, TN

Joey Pounders and Jay Gallop at the recent Mississippi River Monsters tournament in Memphis.

The Cumberland River (Old Hickory Lake) was a tough bite for the first day of the 2016 Cabela’s King Kat Southern Championship on Sept. 30. Prefishing anglers predicted a tough bite because of a lack of current and for most that prediction came true.

With top anglers from all across catfish country competing in the two-day event, B’n’M Poles prostaffers Joey Pounders and Jay Gallop brought 90.40 pounds to the scales to claim the lead. They left their B’n’M Poles behind for a couple days prior to the tournament to scout their likely waters and it looks like their strategy paid off.

Steve Collins and Kevin Tindle are holding down the second spot with 76.40 pounds while Scott Cress and Joe Bensman are in the third position with 69.08 pounds.

The remaining anglers in the top ten going into day two are:

4th – Fonzi Malaikham and Adam Dehner – 60.96
5th – Carl Morris Jr. and Rob Parsons – 49.22
6th – Bobby Chappell and Danny Chappel – 48.98
7th – Larry Muse and Dino Meador – 47.74
8th – Brian Vohol and Bruce Paulk – 45.76
9th – Bryan Espy and R.J. Giles – 44.74
10th – David Shipman and Brooke Wilbanks – 39.28

For more places check out the King Kat Facebook page.

The weigh-in will be set up at Flippers Bait & Tackle, 200 Odom Bend Rd., Gallatin, TN. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

Whisker Whackers and CatfishNOW wishes all the anglers good luck on the final day.
