Young Angler Hooks New Flathead Record at Twin Buttes
Victor Garcia’s 12.25-pound catch tops previous junior mark by nearly seven pounds.
A young catfish enthusiast from San Angelo, Texas has made waves at 9,080-acre Twin Buttes Reservoir in Tom Green County. Victor Garcia recently landed a flathead catfish weighing in at 12.25 pounds and stretching 30 inches in length—more than doubling the current junior angler record for the lake.
If certified by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Garcia’s impressive catch will replace the previous Twin Buttes junior record of 5.4 pounds, which was set in 2020.
Twin Buttes Reservoir has a reputation for producing trophy catfish. The current all-ages lake record for flathead catfish stands at a massive 73.35 pounds, caught by Roy Martin in 2014.
Garcia’s accomplishment is a great reminder that big fish—and big moments—are out there for anglers of all ages.
