ACA Debuts Live One-on-One Catfish Challenge Broadcast

Thousands of viewers watched live as catfishing experts Alex Nagy and Bryan St. Ama battled it out on the water.
It started out as a concept among friends and quickly grew into one of the most exciting social media broadcasts the sport of catfishing has experienced.
On November 25, a collaborative effort of the American Catfishing Association along with Twisted Cat’s tournament director Alex Nagy and tournament director/tackle entrepreneur Bryan St. Ama debuted the first ever ACA Catfish Challenge.
“Live-action fishing has grown very popular over the years,” said St. Ama. “With the growing interest and popularity in the sport of catfishing, we all thought a one-on-one challenge matched with commentary and viewer interaction might be exciting for folks to watch and experience.”
Turns out these innovative collaborators were right. Within 24 hours, the Catfish Challenge had more than 10,000 views, and the catfish community is very excited to see more.
“It was an amazing day on the water,” Nagy said. “We couldn’t have scripted a better debut of the ACA Catfish Challenge. There were 26 fish caught, and the winner looked to be obvious for most of the day. But, at the end, things got very interesting. It was one of the most exciting opportunities to showcase the sport of catfishing, and we all look forward to advancing the concept.”
The objective is now to refine the offering. The ACA Catfish Challenge will remain a live broadcast on social media, but ultimately, raw footage from the day will be used to turn the live broadcast into an action-packed, 30- or 60-minute quality television series, with up to 13 episodes annually.
“Refining the offering and securing sponsorships now becomes paramount to move the concept forward, said ACA Co-Director Glen Thomas. “Catfishing has become the second-largest segment in the multi-billion-dollar recreational fishing industry, and we firmly believe the ACA Catfish Challenge will not only be great entertainment but can become a significant conduit to promote the sport, techniques, conservation and supporting sponsors.”.
