B’n’M: Quality, Performance, and Service

B’n’M knows rods. They should since they have been building them for more than 70 years. After years of experience with crappie fishing anglers, they recognized the need for good affordable rods for catfish anglers too. The design staff stays current with what anglers want by communicating with a carefully developed pro-staff. The Pro-staffers advise the company on what they need in a great catfish rod and B’n’M builds the rods that also help everyday catfishermen catch more catfish.

One of the most recent additions to the B’n’M Poles line of catfish rods is the SilverCat Elite Light. Given the early reviews, this new lighter version is going to be in high demand.

Silver Cat Elite Light

Given the success and popularity of the Silver Cat Elite series, B’n’M introduced the light action version at the 2021 ICAST show in Orlando, FL.

SilverCat Elite Light“This lighter action rod is targeted towards the anglers who primarily target channel cats, smaller blue cats, and flathead catfish,” said Jason McDuffie, National Sales Manager at B’n’M.  “It has all the same features that have made the Elite series one of the best-selling and widely used catfish rods. They include the X-grip EVA handle, aluminum reel seat, and stainless steel guides. It is built on a blank with 20% less backbone than the original Elite.”

B’n’M pro staff angler Ryan Lawrence has been trying out the new Silver Cat Elite Light. They are available in either the baitcasting model or the spinning model so anglers can choose the one they like best. He prefers the baitcaster version.

I’ve been having a blast playing with the new B’n’M Poles Silver Cat Elite Light rods,” said Lawrence. “They are becoming my favorite rods real fast.”

He plans to use the new lighter version of the popular Elite rod when he is dragging in slow current and when anchor fishing. They will handle either method of catfishing.

“I think they will make a great rod for channel cats up north,” continued Lawrence. “I’ve been using them for about a month now on Old Hickory. I’ve caught several fish between 10 and 20 pounds with great success. To me they are a blast because with the light action a 15 to 17 pound fish feels like a 30 pounder.”

Given their lighter action he does not recommend them for use in stronger currents but definitely plans to use them when the current is not to strong. Especially when fishing for big northern channel cats.

“I have used them on anchor with less than 1 mph current,” concluded Lawrence. “I believe they would work well for dragging and plan to use them that way. I think they will be great for targeting channel cats. I think lighter planer boards are needed, but my ClearBoard planer boards are not very heavy so they would work well.”
