Nine-year-old girl breaks a record with her catch of the day.
That’s quite a catch! Nine-year-old Maggy Sojourner of Granbury, Texas landed a beautiful blue catfish that tipped the scales at more than 26 pounds! She caught the lunker on January 22, and, on March 8, it was certified as the Lake Granbury record in Maggy’s age group.
“Teach a girl to fish and she may bust some records,” the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department posted on their Facebook page.
Jeffery Sojourner, Maggy’s dad, operates a fishing guide service on the lake. The day he took his daughter fishing, she told him she wanted to catch the Junior Waterbody record for the lake, and she did just that. Hers is the biggest catfish ever caught by a child or teenager at Lake Granbury. She returned her catch to the water unharmed as she had been taught.
Maggy’s recognition is part of the Texas’ Angler Recognition Program, which maintains state records lists for public and private waters and water body records for all public lakes, rivers, and bays. Junior Anglers (under 17 years of age) compete in a division all their own. The program issues certificates for several types of angler achievements. To learn more, click here.
