Lee Hannon is proof positive that you don’t need a boat to catch big catfish. Lee is known for his ability to throw baits from the bank and hook up with the big ones.
He has been described by friends as a “local bank fishing legend.” Hannon has proven his skills time and time again on his stompin’ grounds which he describes as the Tennessee River in Iuka, Mississippi up to Florence Alabama and the Tennessee–Tombigbee Waterway in Mississippi.
“Bank fishing is all about putting your time in,” instructed Hannon. “What I usually look for from the bank is the bait. If I’m consistently catching a particular kind of bait then that’s the bait I want on my hook where I’m fishing.”
Hannon also identifies a mistake that he sees shore-bound angers make way to often. He say’s that once you locate a good spot pay attention to where you cast.
“I see bank fishermen do this a lot this time of year,” offered Hannon. “They make their casts too long. Most all of my big fish come from 10 to 15 feet out in front of me. And, it is for the same reason. The bait is closer in and so are the hungry fish.”
