Catfish Basics #090 – Bumping in June – Lonnie and Dawn Fountain, GA

When June rolls around Lonnie and Dawn Fountain like to head out to about any dam on the Tennessee River to do some bumping.

“Usually we fish at Guntersville, Nickajack, Wheeler, and Wilson,” said Dawn. “We like to fish below the dams on the Tennessee River in June. “You can catch em’ there that time of year.”

“That’s when the blues come up river towards the dams,” continued Dawn. “And there’s usually enough current to make the bumping good. We catch em’ below the dams bumping with cut bait. We use whichever bait we can catch. Skippys (skipjack) and shad are both good that time of year.”

“We rig  our Big Cat Fever Bumping Rods with a 10/0 Whisker Seeker Triple Threat hook and usually a 4- to 6-ounce sinker—you just have to test it depending on the amount of current. In the back of our head we are thinking about winning that BCF Bonus for catching a state record.”
