Rod and Reel Care – Reel Magic with Ron Presley
Reel Magic is well known for its ability to reduce line memory and increase casting distance. We also know that it prevents line icing on those cold winter days when the temperatures are below freezing.
As a fulltime fishing guide on Florida’s East Coast, I always enjoyed providing equipment to my clients that gave them a longer casts and few tangles. But as a businessman I enjoyed the sometimes overlook benefit that Real Magic had on my rods and reels. My fishing in those day was in saltwater and it can be devastating to equipment.
Good maintenance is a must in the saltwater environment. After a guide trip I would spray down my rods and reels with Real Magic to protect them from the salty elements. That’s right, rods and reels. And don’t forget a good blast on the line guides.
The result of that routine maintenance is obvious to me today. Even though I have changed my focus from saltwater species to the freshwater catfish, I am still using some of those same rods and reels from my guiding days.
As far as I’m concerned, the proof is in the pudding. Because of what I learned in those saltwater days, I continue to apply that same routine maintenance today. If you take care of your gear today it will still perform for you tomorrow. My advice is to make Real Magic a part of your maintenance plan.
