When December rolls around I like to fish in shallow water. I find the bait moving into the shallow water because it warms up faster and the catfish follow. It is relatively simple fishing.
I like to rig my B’n’M poles with a standard Carolina rig and bait with skipjack. I fish mostly with my dad and we approach those shallow-water fish very quietly. They can be spooky and if you spook one you spook them all.
Probably the most important thing we do is to approach the shallows with the trolling motor and then use our Minn Kota Raptor shallow water anchors to hold the SeaArk in place and make a stable platform for fishing.
I like to leave the rod in the rod holder and reel down on the fish to ensure a hook-up. Then I take the rod out of the rod holder to fight the fish.
Editor’s note: Chandler is an avid catfish angler. He is shown in the photo above with his personal best blue cat at 52.75 pounds. He fishes with his Dad, Marty Highnote, as a tournament partner. They enjoy traveling from their home state of Georgia to other locations to compete.
