Mike Mitchell Trusts Boss Kat Hooks
Boss Kat hooks are made by Daiichi and enjoy the same quality production process and dependability that anglers have respect for years. They offer a variety of styles to meet any angler’s specific needs.
Boss Kat offers “J” hooks, circle hooks, super sharp extra heavy wire circles hooks, thin wire hooks, sickle hooks, and two different kits that contain multiple hook styles and rigging. They come in both nickel and red finishes to meet individual angler’s preferences.
Mike Mitchell (SouthernCats Guide Service) has a passion for catfishing. When he is not guiding clients to trophy cats or fishing (and winning) tournaments, you are likely to find him fun fishing his home waters on the Tennessee River where he puts his trust in Boss Kat hooks.
“I have been using the same hooks forever,” stated Mitchell. “I started with Daiichi years ago and now use Boss Kat. My favorite is the circle hooks. Mostly I use the Super Boss 8/0 (BK84Z) and the 10/0 Big Boss (BK72Z) styles and sizes.”
Mitchell likes the fact that the Boss Kats are lighter wire than most circle hooks but still very strong. They are proven to give a quick and efficient penetration through the very hard mouth of a catfish.
“I typically run the 8/0 for everything but the really big baits,” instructed Mitchell. “I use the 10/0 when I want to target bigger fish with bigger baits. I snell all my hooks to improve my hook set. Combined with the straight eye on Boss Kat circle hooks I get a trigger effect when I snell the hook that typically hooks the fish deeper in the mouth and I lose very few fish.”
“These hooks are fairly aggressive with an offset that allows you to do a rod sweep or fast reel down with great hookups,” continued Mitchell. “I fish a lot of different areas, not just rivers but lakes too. Often times I have to set the hook. Not a normal jerk, but a rod sweep or fast reel down and they do the job. My Boss Kat hooks have landed a 117, 102, 98, two 90s, and a dozen fish or more in the 80-pound range. They work well for me in all situations—bumping, anchoring, dragging, and vertical drifting.”
For anglers wanting to give the various styles a try, the Boss Kat Complete Kit (BK-10) will do the trick. It is a 30-piece kit that contains Super Boss Circle Hooks in black nickel and BOSS RED, Boss Treble Hooks in Boss RED, Boss “J” Hooks in Black Nickel, Sure Stick Bait Tubes for use with dip baits, sinker slides, and knot protectors for easy rigging.
A different kit, the Boss Kat ALL-U-NEED kit contains 44 Pieces. It comes with Super Boss circle hooks, BOSS “J” hooks, and Open Wide Hooks. The kit also contains #5 and #6 split shot weights for rigging. The ALL-U-NEED kit is good for small eating size cats or big trophy cats.
Remember, the red finish on the Boss Kat hooks is proven to trigger a feeding response and improve angling success. That’s why many anglers favor them.
