Catfish Gear #55

Jason Aycock Relies on Boss Kat Hooks

Boss Kat hooks are made by Daiichi and enjoy the same quality production process and dependability that anglers have respected for years. They offer a variety of styles to meet any angler’s specific needs.

Boss Kat offers “J” hooks, circle hooks, super sharp extra heavy wire circles hooks, thin wire hooks, sickle hooks, and two different kits that contain multiple hook styles and rigging. They come in both nickel and red finishes to meet individual angler’s preferences.

B’n’M Poles pro-staff angler Jason Aycock has been using Boss Kat Hooks ever since they came out. He uses both the bronze and red hooks mostly in the 8/0 (Super Boss) size. He finds them extremely strong with a great hookset ratio.

“In the past, I’ve used hooks that would break,” recalled Aycock. “My experience shows the Boss Kat hooks to be unbreakable. They are also very sharp which means if a fish is finicky and they are not hammering your bait, one little touch and they are hooked.”

Aycock praises the slight offset built into the Boss Kat hook design.

Boss Kat hooks are designed with a slight offset built in to improve the hook set. Anglers can choose from the red hooks as shown or the bronze hooks if they prefer.

“They come with a slight offset which means a higher chance of a hook set,” he continued. “I can remember many trips on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers when I felt like the fish were just swiping at the hook. It was like they were spawning and the bites were just reaction bites. Since I switched over to Boss Kat Hooks I feel that these reaction swipes have turned into catches.”

“I can remember reeling in fish when the hook was just in their whiskers,” concluded Aycock. “It takes a sharp hook for that to happen!”

Boss Kat hooks have landed a lot of big fish and they work well with different methods of catfishing—bumping, anchoring, dragging, and vertical drifting.

For anglers wanting to give the various styles a try, the Boss Kat Complete Kit (BK-10) will do the trick. It is a 30-piece kit that contains Super Boss Circle Hooks in black nickel and BOSS RED, Boss Treble Hooks in Boss RED, Boss “J” Hooks in Black Nickel, Sure Stick Bait Tubes for use with dip baits, sinker slides, and knot protectors for easy rigging.

A more complete kit, the Boss Kat ALL-U-NEED kit contains 44 Pieces. It comes with Super Boss circle hooks, BOSS “J” hooks, and Open Wide Hooks. The kit also contains #5 and #6 split shot weights for rigging. The ALL-U-NEED kit is good for catching small eating size cats or big trophy cats.

Remember, the red finish on the Boss Kat hooks is proven to trigger a feeding response and improve angling success. That’s why many anglers favor them.
