Off Shore Tackle Planer Board Releases
In recent years, more and more anglers are using in-line planer boards for catfishing, and many of those anglers have learned that most traditional pinch-pad line releases will only function best with monofilament lines. Fortunately, Off Shore Tackle now makes available a new generation of line releases designed to let you use either fused lines or super braids as the main line while still rigging the boards to release when a fish is hooked.
Off Shore’s OR39 Sam’s Pro Releases are plunger-style releases that allow super braids to be wrapped around a rubber plunger. A tension-adjustment screw makes it easy to set the release tension on the plunger firm enough that when fish bite they get hooked solidly, yet light enough that a snap of the rod tip easily trips open the line release, allowing the braided line to smoothly uncoil from the plunger. Many anglers use this with mono as well.
An included lock nut can be used to run the Sam’s Pro Release rigidly on the bracket of the in-line planer board, or you can run it loosely attached via the included split ring. The releases will fit the tow arm of the Off Shore Tackle’s OR12 Side-Planer, OR38 Mini Board and the OR37 SST Pro Magnum board perfectly. They are also great options for any of the other planer board brands available.
Also available from Off Shore Tackle is the Snapper Adjustable Release OR18. This release is made to attach to the bracket of the OR12 Side Planer and OR31 Side Planer SST and can be used on other brands of planer boards as well. A wide range of tension settings makes it ideal not only for catfish but walleyes, stripers, salmon, steelhead, trout and muskies as well. Use it with super lines, lead core or monofilament, as you prefer. The Snapper Release is easy to add to the Offshore planer boards, and easy for both beginner and experienced fishermen to use, making the inadvertent loss of planer boards due to attachment problems zero. Replacement pads (ORRP8SN) are available if needed.
Both the OR39 Sam’s Pro Release and the OR18 Snapper Release can be purchased at many retailers in-store and online.
