Off Shore Tackle Planer Board Releases
In-line planer boards are gaining popularity among catfish anglers, but many quickly realize that traditional pinch-pad line releases work best with monofilament lines. Fortunately, Off Shore Tackle offers specialized line releases that allow the use of braided or fused lines while still enabling the boards to release when a fish is hooked.
OR39 Sam’s Pro Release: Designed for Braided Line
The OR39 Sam’s Pro Release is a plunger-style release designed specifically for use with braided lines. Instead of a pinch-pad grip, the line wraps around a rubber plunger. A tension-adjustment screw lets anglers fine-tune the release pressure, ensuring a solid hookset when a fish strikes. With a quick snap of the rod tip, the release trips, allowing the braided line to smoothly uncoil from the plunger. While designed for braid, many anglers also use it with monofilament.
For added versatility, the included lock nut allows the Sam’s Pro Release to be mounted rigidly to the bracket of an in-line planer board, or it can be loosely attached using the included split ring. It fits seamlessly on the tow arm of Off Shore Tackle’s OR12 Side-Planer, OR38 Mini Board, and OR37 SST Pro Magnum board. It’s also compatible with many other planer board brands.
OR18 Snapper Adjustable Release: Versatile and Reliable
Off Shore Tackle’s OR18 Snapper Adjustable Release is designed for the OR12 Side Planer and OR31 Side Planer SST but also works with other planer board brands. This adjustable-release system offers a wide range of tension settings, making it a great choice not only for catfish but also for species like walleyes, stripers, salmon, steelhead, trout, and muskies.
For catfish anglers, the OR18 is ideal when you don’t want the board to trip upon a strike. It securely holds braided line, but it’s also compatible with monofilament and lead core setups. The easy-to-use design makes it a great option for both beginners and experienced anglers, ensuring a firm hold and minimizing the risk of losing a planer board due to an attachment failure.
Both the OR39 Sam’s Pro Release and the OR18 Snapper Release are widely available at tackle retailers in-store and online.
