September Catfish Action in Memphis
Grab your pencil, roll up your sleeves, and take some catfish notes. Fall is here and all kinds of catfishing action abound. Fast forward to September and look at what the catfish community has to look forward to in Memphis, Tennessee on the Big Muddy. There is definitely something for everyone.
Excel Boats Storm Cat Warm-up Event – The action begins with the Mississippi River Monsters (MRM) Excel Storm Cat Warm-Up Event on September 1, 2018. Catfish anglers will hit the waters of the Mississippi River out of the Mud Island River Harbor in search of whiskered critters.
Anglers can fish the Excel Boats event for a registration fee of $150 and use the fishing time to prospect, mark fishing areas, and generally get ready for the big MRM tournament the next weekend.
Monster Week Pre-fish Event – (This event is only open to those who are registered to fish the MRM.) Anglers can continue to hone their river skills during the next week. Anglers will have a chance to win prize money for the biggest fish caught on each day leading up the MRM tournament. This event is also being staged out of Mud Island River Harbor on September 2, thru the 6th, 2018. And the good news is, the event is completely FREE if registered for MRM!
Mississippi River Monsters Tournament – When the weekend rolls around the Third Annual MRM Catfish Tournament will take place. It all begins on Friday, September 7 with the Captains Meeting in West Memphis. The registration fee is $250 per boat. The first 100 boats entered will be eligible to win an all-expense-paid fishing trip with Bill Dance!
Seminars – On Friday afternoon there will be a set of seminars beginning at 1:45 and continuing until the last one scheduled at 4:30 is complete. Seminar speakers include Paul Blackwell, James “Big Cat” Patterson, the Masingale Brothers, and Phil King. A ton of catfish information will be shared in the seminars so plan on attending and learn from the best.
Tournament day for MRM is Saturday, September 8th. The weigh-in will be held at the Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid. The public is invited to attend. There are bound to be some big Mississippi River catfish weighed in. The 2017 event weighed in 325 fish, totaling 5,165 pounds!
Prizes – First Place at MRM pays $5,000 in cash and a loaded Tracker Grizzly Boat, 2072MVXCC, motor and trailer worth more than $30,000!
The MRM Catfish Expo – On September 7 and 8 there will also be a Catfish Expo set up in Southwest Parking lot of Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid. Vendors will be on hand to demonstrate the catfishing equipment and accessories they provide.
REGISTER TO WIN an Excel Storm Cat Boat – Anglers registered for the MRM Tournament and anglers registered for the Excel Storm Cat Warm-up event will also have their fingers crossed to win a new boat.
Everyone registered for MRM will have their name in the hat to win the Storm Cat. Everyone registered for the Warm-up event will have their name in the drawing too if they also fish the MRM. Anglers that fished both events will have two chances to win. It would be possible for some anglers to have three chances to win because if they fish the MRM and fished the Caruthersville King Kat event in August they receive yet another chance.
Cabela’s King Kat Qualifier – The guys from Cabela’s King Kat will be onsite all day for weigh-ins and will be posting updates on Facebook and Instagram. The 2018 MRM is a qualifying event for the 2018 Cabela’s King Kat Classic which will feature a guaranteed payout of $110,000 in cash and prizes. The King Kat Classic be held September 13–15, 2018 on the Ohio River at Jeffersonville, Indiana. The top three finishers in the MRM tournament will qualify for Jeffersonville.
Fishlife National Championship Qualifier – The MRM is also a qualifier for the 2nd Annual National Catfish Championship. The 2019 event will be held on Wheeler Lake at Rogersville, AL.
