George Young Jr. is well known in catfish circles for his ability to catch big cats. His favorite way to do it is bumping bottom on the Mississippi River near Memphis. I personally took some “bumpin’ lessons” from Young and he is a good teacher too. He is often seen on the river chasing whiskered critters with his good friend Bill Dance.
When he had an idea to create a new catfish tournament, he consulted with Dance, who supported and encouraged the idea. The Mississippi River Monsters catfish tournament out of Memphis was born. Last year the popular event drew 184 boats and twice as many anglers to Memphis to fish the Mighty Mississippi.
This year Young has another endeavor. He has established his own line of catfish gear so that other catfish anglers can benefit from his knowledge and experience in catching the big cats. He was on hand in Louisville, KY at the recent Catfish Conference to showcase his new line of proven and tested gear. His products are distributed by B’n’M Poles out of their Mississippi warehouse. They are available online from B’n’M, at Bass Pro Shops and other catfish retailers.
His offerings include 9 different products, including three-way swivels, straight swivels, sinker slides and hooks in various sizes. Photos and descriptions of all these products can be viewed at https://www.bnmpoles.com/c-50-catfish-gear.aspx.
I caught up with Young at the Catfish Conference where we made a short video related to his new signature catfish gear. Click here to view the video on You Tube.
