Off Shore Tackle Planer Boards
By Nick DeShano
Catch more catfish with these increasingly popular fishing tools.
Off Shore Tackle makes the #1 selling planer boards on the market. They offer three different models that cover any application, all proudly made in the USA. These include the mid-sized OR12, the OR38 Mini board and the biggest of them all and most popular with catfishermen, the OR37 SST Pro Mag planer. All three can help you put more fish in the boat.
The OR37 Pro Mag planer can pull the heaviest weights, including 10- to 16-ounce weights with large baits such as skipjacks. It comes with the OR18 Snapper release on the front and the OR16, which has a pin in the center of the pad to prevent the board from coming off your line and sliding down to the fish. The OR16 can also be replaced with a heavy-duty snap swivel if you prefer to let the board float on the surface and the line to move freely through the rear snap.
The OR12 is the most popular multi-species planer board on the market today. It’s great for the lighter to mid-sized weights up to six ounces. It also can be rigged with a TattleFlag™ (sold separately), which has a spring-loaded flag that lets you know you have a bite from a smaller fish when the flag is pulled down from the weight of a fish.
The OR38 Mini Planer is the smallest offering from Off Shore Tackle and is usually best utilized for catching skipjacks. For skipjacks, a sabiki-style rig is used behind the board, and multiple fish can be caught at once.
Off Shore Tackle planer boards are durable and long lasting, which will allow you to enjoy them for many years to come. For more information, visit OffShoreTackle.com.
