Tackle 22 Fishing-Making Dreams Come True

A fishing trip in recognition of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Tackle 22 Fishing is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Their objective is to bring awareness to the unacceptable national average of 22 veteran suicides each day. Their mission is pursued by offering no-cost fishing trips to honorably discharged veterans, retirees, or active duty service members.

In their latest charity endeavor Tackle 22 Fishing is recognizing Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by raising money to provide a 9-year-old boy, diagnosed with T cell Leukemia, his active duty coast guard father, and their family with a weeklong fishing trip.

“Nine-year-old Jesse Richey is our biggest fan,” said Edward Andersen, Founder/President of Tackle 22 Fishing. “It’s strange to think that we would have any fans, much less one as special as Jesse. We met Jesse through social media and he instantly became family. He has amazing parents that we’ve gotten to know over the last couple of months.”

“Jesse has been struck with a passion for fishing,” continued Andersen. “He has told me that he wanted to fish with me one day. His father, Ryan Richey, sends me pictures of Jesse watching our YouTube channel. And when I talk to Jesse, he’s sure to let me know that I need to put out a new video.”

Jesse posted a wish with the Make a Wish Foundation to take his family to Disney World. He has since changed his wish to get a pontoon boat for him and his family so that he can take other children with cancer on fishing trips. His goal is much like how Tackle 22 Fishing takes veterans on trips.

“This was the most humbling thing I had ever heard,” praised Andersen. “In a day and age where 9-year-olds care about PlayStation and Pop-Tarts, Jesse wants to make an impact on other children going through what he’s going through. What an amazing young man.”

Tackle 22 Fishing has set a goal of $4,000 to bring the Richey family from Maine to Alabama to enjoy an all-expenses-paid fishing trip for a week. Anyone interested in getting involved or making a donation should contact Andersen directly by messaging the Tackle 22 Fishing Facebook page. As a 501(c)3, anyone donating $250 or more will receive a tax deduction letter.

“As of right now we are at $1,500 of our $4k goal,” concluded Andersen. “We hope to have everything raised by October 1st and are planning the trip for October 26th-31st. Please help us get this Active Duty Service Member and his amazing son down to AL and make a dream come true!”
