Turning off your iPhone passcode
I continue to be amazed at the technology we carry in our Smart Phones. I also continue to be amazed at how hard it can be to find a simple solution to problems that bug me about using my phone.
When I got my iPhone 6s I discovered that it had an excellent audio recording function. As I travel around and talk to anglers, vendors and friends I often record our conservation if there is a story involved. This discovery that my phone would provide excellent audio recording allowed me to toss out a small audio recorded that I had to carry. Yep, one more thing that my phone does for me. Gotta’ love the convenience.
Well, that’s all good, but as I used it I discovered that as the recording reached a certain length of time the passcode kicked in and in order to pause or turn off the recording function I had to enter the passcode. Very inconvenient.
So, I searched the internet for a solution that would allow me to not use a passcode. I could not find one. I would do this every month or so as I re-discovered the need to enter the passcode to pause the recorder. Never could find a solution.
Then, the other day my daughter was showing me how to set up a thumbprint to use instead of the passcode and low and behold, there it was. On the menu in the phone was the option to “Turn Password Off.”
As is often the case when you want to do something new with computers, or in this case iPhones, it is easy if you just know how to do it. Lol.
So anyway, if you have a need to disable your passcode here are the simple instructions that I discovered after months of searching.
Go to “Settings,” click on “Touch ID and Passcode.” A new screen opens (after entering your passcode) that gives you the option to “Turn Passcode Off.” Follow the online instructions and that’s it!
Now, as I conduct interviews in the field I can pause and record without the need to enter my passcode. It seems simple now, but that’s the way it is in life. Anything is easy if you know how to do it.
